The
CapX2020 utilities filed a Route Permit application
(see press
release) with the Minnesota Public Utilities
Commission (MN PUC) for the Brookings County-Hampton
345-kilovolt transmission line project on December
29, 2008. Landowners owning property within one of
the two route options were mailed a packet in late
December. As required by state law, two route options
were proposed for the approximately 240-mile transmission
line and associated substations. The MN PUC will
determine which route option will be certified after
a lengthy public process, including public meetings
held by the Department of Commerce, Office of Energy
Security and public hearings held by the MN PUC and
overseen by an administrative law judge.
The CapX2020 utilities encourage all landowners, regardless if they have property
within a route option, to continue attending meetings and participating in the
public process. There have been instances in Minnesota where the MN PUC has certified
routes not proposed in the utilities' Route Permit application. Additionally,
public participation continues to be valued at all stages of the process.
