Federal regulatory filings
Before transmission lines
can be built, permits and approvals are required
from several federal agencies, including Rural Utilities
Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Federal agencies
will conduct environmental reviews to comply with
the National Environmental Policy Act.
Two of the CapX2020 partners – Dairyland
Power Cooperative and Minnkota Electric Cooperative – are
seeking financing from RUS for their portions of
the investment in the project. RUS, a division of
the United States Department of Agriculture, is a
federal financing agency that provides funding assistance
to cooperatives for the installation and modernization
of rural electric systems.
