Bemidji-Grand Rapids 230 kV project construction update

Crews began clearing right-of-way in January 2011, working east from Cass Lake to the Boswell Substation; tree clearing continues in this area and west of Cass Lake in 2012. Setting structures began in July 2011, and by April 5, 466 of 532 foundations had been drilled, and 404 of 532 structures had been set along the 70-mile route. Conductor installation using helicopters and implosive devices began in January 2012 and is expected to continue through April on the eastern portion of the line. Construction continues, and the entire line is scheduled to be energized by the end of 2012.

Fargo-St. Cloud 345 kV project construction update

Xcel Energy began contacting landowners in Minnesota in summer 2011 to discuss easement acquisition for the necessary right-of-way. Construction began in January 2012 between Alexandria and Sauk Centre. By early April 2012, nearly 100 foundations had been installed. The Fargo-St. Cloud project, including a North Dakota segment, is scheduled to be energized and in service in 2015.
