CapX 2020 Transmission Projects
CapX 2020 represents an effort to ensure
the electricity reliability of Minnesota and the surrounding
region for the future. It started as an effort by the
state's largest transmission owners -- including cooperatives,
municipals and investor-owned utilities -- to assess
the system and projected growth in customer demand for
electricity through 2020.
Studies show that the region's transmission
backbone will require major upgrades and expansion to
accommodate increased electricity demand as well as support
renewable energy expansion through 2020.
