CapX2020 utilities present route options at public meetings

The CapX2020 utilities are hosting seven open houses on the proposed high voltage transmission line between Hampton, Rochester and La Crosse. The open houses will include maps that display several proposed route options. The utilities are currently reviewing and collecting data on the route options, including three potential sites for crossing the Mississippi River – Alma, Winona and La Crescent/La Crosse – where existing transmission lines already cross the river; the proposed line would only cross the river once. Please stop by anytime to provide your comments on the two options. No formal presentation is scheduled.

The utilities plan to file an application for a Route Permit for the Hampton-Rochester-La Crosse transmission line project with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission in early 2009. An application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity will be filed with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin in early 2009 as well.

The proposed line is designed to expand the electricity infrastructure to ensure continued reliable service, meet the growth in electricity demand and support renewable energy expansion.
